On 26 April, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius on his first official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia met with King Salman bin Abdelaziz al-Saud. King Salman emphasized strengthening of bilateral political and economic relations, speeding up of signing of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and the Investment Promotion Agreement, and welcomed the opening of an Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Jeddah, the second-largest city in Saudi Arabia.

“Lithuanian businessmen take interest in a possibility of increasing export to Saudi Arabia. Our exporters can offer the best quality food, textile and engineering products,” said Linkevičius.

King Salman called for promoting both people-to-people and business-to-business contacts, and welcomed upcoming Lithuanian business mission to Saudi Arabia this year.

Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Iran’s influence in the region, and Russia’s aggression in Ukraine where discussed at the meeting. The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy underlined that these issues would be very important during Lithuania’s Presidency of the United Nations Security Council in May.
